Management and Operations of DOE Nuclear Sites

HII has been at the forefront of the U.S. Navy’s nuclear program for more than 60 years, providing state-of-the-art services while operating aging facilities that are in some cases more than a century old. We have brought this experience to the management of the Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) nuclear laboratories and facilities. Our owner/operator approach to conducting complex operations within a heavily populated urban area, along with the high expectations of our customer, drives us to develop maintenance and construction programs that ensure safe and compliant operations in a schedule-driven environment for the DOE. We have developed and implemented facility programs and project management and control systems at a number of DOE locations, including the Savannah River Site, Grand Junction Office, Hanford Site, Idaho National Laboratory, Waste Isolation Pilot Plant, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Execution of Complex Environmental Remediation Projects

HII has successfully managed an extensive range of environmental reclamation and stewardship projects, from highly complex, multi-year remediation of radioactively contaminated sites, facilities, equipment, structures and soils to short-term evaluations of local groundwater quality in anticipation of commercial construction. We have safely and successfully conducted all phases of environmental remediation work, from initial investigation through final closure. We apply assessment methodologies designed to fully characterize the nature and extent of potential contaminants in soil, water, air and biota and focus on innovative remediation techniques that can lower overall costs and reduce environmental and human health impacts.

Decommissioning Commercial Nuclear Sites

For over three decades, HII has provided site closure, site decontamination, and long-term storage and maintenance services for both the DOE and commercial clients. As more commercial nuclear sites are slated to require deactivation and decontamination in the coming decades, HII is uniquely positioned to perform this work safely, efficiently and with environmental stewardship and regulatory compliance at top-of-mind.

We contribute across the DOE enterprise.
